How Yovo handles guest sessions, conversations and moderation records.
Last updated 14 October 2026
Video and microphone access
Yovo asks your browser for camera and microphone permission when you check your camera or start chatting. Video calls use WebRTC, either connecting browsers directly or passing encrypted media through a relay when needed. Yovo does not record or store your video or audio.
Another participant could record a conversation independently. A direct connection may also reveal network information, including an IP address, to the other participant. Do not share information you want to keep private.
Guest sessions, without an account
You do not need to register or provide an email address to chat. An essential cookie named yovo_guest keeps your guest session available to the service. It can remain in your browser for up to one year; this does not mean all session data is kept for a year.
The service stores a guest identifier, a hash of the session token, a hashed IP address, and timestamps to manage matching, access restrictions and abuse prevention. Our servers also process IP addresses to deliver the connection and maintain operational logs.
Messages, connection data and reports
Text messages and the connection signals needed to establish a call pass through Yovo’s server. Room records identify which guests were paired and when. If you send a report, we store its reason, optional explanation and the related guest and room identifiers. Moderation records include decisions and bans.
Messages disappear from your screen when you move on. They are normally removed from the service database after one hour during scheduled cleanup.
How long records are kept
| Record | Usual retention |
|---|---|
| Messages and connection signals | 1 hour |
| Ended room records | 24 hours |
| Inactive guest identities | 30 days |
| Reports and moderation logs | 90 days |
| Active bans | While the ban applies |
Cleanup runs on a schedule, so deletion is not immediate at the end of a retention period. Room and guest records linked to retained reports, signals or bans can remain longer. Expired or revoked bans are normally removed after 90 days. Database backups are rotated separately; up to seven recent backup copies may still contain records removed from the live database.
Browser preferences
Your choice of Stacked or Overlay video layout is saved locally in your browser. It does not create an account. You can clear this preference and the guest cookie in your browser settings. Clearing browser storage does not remove existing reports or moderation records from the server.
Your controls
Use Stop to end the chat and release the camera and microphone. You can also revoke camera and microphone permissions in your browser. To report a rule violation, use Report before ending the conversation and avoid including unnecessary personal information in the report details. Sending a report ends the current conversation and looks for a new match.
Read the community guidelines before starting a conversation.
